Three Days in the Maximum City: Our Unforgettable IIT Bombay Techfest Experience

There’s a unique kind of magic in heading to Mumbai with your best friends—especially when the destination is Asia’s largest science and technology festival. When four of us packed our bags for Techfest at IIT Bombay, we knew we were in for a great event, but we didn't fully anticipate just how epic those three days would be.

From sprawling green campus corridors to high-energy tech arenas and late-night street food runs, here is a look back at our whirlwind trip to Mumbai.


Day 1: Entering the Tech Haven at Powai

Arriving at the IIT Bombay campus in Powai felt like entering a different city within Mumbai. Nestled right next to Powai Lake and surrounded by lush greenery, the atmosphere was buzzing with thousands of students from across the country.

  • Setting Up Base: After checking into our hostel accommodation on campus, the four of us immediately set out to explore the map. The sheer scale of the festival was overwhelming in the best possible way.

  • Robowars & Innovation Exhibits: We spent our first afternoon in packed auditoriums watching high-stakes Robowars—metal clashing, sparks flying, and crowds roaring. The international exhibitions featured futuristic prototypes, humanoids, and drone tech that left us thoroughly inspired.

Day 2: Keynotes, Competitions, and Nightlife Energy

The second day was a mix of intense focus and absolute fun:

  • Inspiring Keynotes: Attending sessions by industry leaders and global innovators gave us a fresh perspective on where engineering and technology are heading.

  • Techno-Night Spectacle: By evening, the campus transformed. Techfest isn't just about code and circuits; the EDM nights and laser light shows had the entire crowd dancing under the open sky. Sharing those moments with three close friends made the energy unforgettable.

Day 3: Exploring Mumbai & Street Food Feasts

You can't visit Mumbai without experiencing its legendary street food culture. Between events, our group made sure to fuel up on authentic local flavors:

  • Vada Pav & Cutting Chai: Hot vada pavs paired with piping-hot cutting chai right outside the campus gate became our daily ritual.

  • Pav Bhaji Runs: Late evening called for butter-loaded Pav Bhaji at local eateries nearby—the ultimate comfort food after walking miles across campus.

  • A Quick Coastal Detour: Before catching our return train, we managed to sneak in a quick visit to Marine Drive to feel the sea breeze and watch the Mumbai skyline light up along the "Queen's Necklace."

Memories That Lasted Longer Than the Trip

Looking back, Techfest was incredible, but what made the trip truly special was the camaraderie—the endless inside jokes in the hostel room, getting lost together in the massive campus, and the shared excitement of exploring a new city. Three days flew by in a blur of technology, laughter, and coastal air, leaving us with stories we still retell today.
